A ketogenic lifestyle is when your diet is based on eating low carbs, high fat and moderate protein. The result is that it puts your body into a state of ketosis which is when your body sources energy from fat stores instead of using carbohydrates.
INFLAMMATION IN THE BODY
What are the benefits?
A ketogenic diet has many health benefits that go way beyond the context of weight loss. Many of the diseases we are facing today are linked to inflammation in the body, including conditions like obesity, heart disease, diabetes and mental illness. Refined sugar and grains are co-contributors to inflammation.
CARBS CAUSE CRAVINGS
What to stop eating
Eliminate sugar and refined carbohydrates like wheat, pasta and rice. Beginning with foods that contain wheat like bread, cakes, cookies, donuts, crackers and cereals.
EAT UNTIL SATIETY
Eat more healthy natural fats
You can enjoy eating real foods like meats, such as lamb shanks, pork chops and roast beef with a side of green vegetables covered in grass fed butter and sprinkled with rock salt. Egg and bacon are on the menu along with avocados, coconut, cheese, full cream, natural yogurt and nuts. Eat chicken including the yummy skin and good fatty fish such as mackerel, herring or salmon.
EAT REAL FOOD
Eat less natural sugar
All fruit is high in sugar, aim to restrict your intake to one serve a day. Select fresh organic fruit in season if possible. I mostly eat berries like raspberries, blueberries and strawberries they taste great with double full cream or natural greek yogurt.
FRUIT IS HIGH CARB
BERRIES ARE A GREAT CHOICE
HIGH IN NUTRIENTS
Eat Green Veggies
Eat green veggies everyday, make a smoothie or as a side salad. I use veggies like broccoli as a base for meat sauces and curries. Select fresh organic green veggies in season if possible. They are also wonderful as a side dish covered in grass fed butter and sprinkled with rock or himalayan sea salt.
